Jean-Claude Knebeler
Head of Sustainable Development Department, International & Comparative Law Research Center; Former Ambassador of Luxembourg
Jean-Claude Knebeler is a Moscow-based ESG advisor, entrepreneur, investor and independent board member. He is Head of the Sustainable Development Department at ICLRC, an independent member of Gazprombank’s Group Sustainability Council, Chairman of ExactFarming as well as founder of Lux Global Advisory LLC. He unites expertise on ESG-related topics with deep understanding of geopolitics and global markets, with a focus on emerging economies.
Up to September 2020, he was a career diplomat, with his latest posting leading him to serve for four years as Ambassador of Luxembourg to the Russian Federation, with co-accreditations to Kazakhstan and Belarus. From 2012-2016, he was Consul General in New York and Executive Director of the Luxembourg Trade & Investment Office, covering business diplomacy in the Eastern halves of the United States and Canada. Jean-Claude spent his entire diplomatic career focusing on issues related to trade & investment as well as economic development, having been diplomatic advisor to the Minister of the Economy & Foreign Trade of Luxembourg and serving as Director General of Trade & Investment, a member of the Ministry of the Economy’s management board.
Mr. Knebeler is a past director of Cargolux Airlines (air freight), Enovos International (energy production & distribution) as well as the Office du Ducroire (public export credit agency).
He was educated at the London School of Economics (UK), the Ecole Nationale d’Administration (F) and Harvard University (US).
