Alice Chapple
Director, Head of Sustainable Finance Division, University of Cambridge
Alice Chapple has worked on sustainable finance for more than 30 years. Her career has been focused on how to ensure capital creates positive social and environmental outcomes alongside financial return. Through her company, Impact Value, she currently works with several funds and companies to help them create strategies to drive social and environmental impact.
Alice also designed the Sustainable Finance course run by Cambridge University Institute for Sustainability Leadership and has been the Head Tutor on that course.
Alice’s other roles include Director of Schroders BSC Social Impact Trust; Trustee of the Shell Foundation; and Chair of Investor Watch whose programmes Carbon Tracker and Planet Tracker aim to drive more sustainable investment practices.
In her earlier career, Alice was Director of Sustainable Financial Markets at Forum for the Future, a sustainable development charity. Her work there explored the barriers to long-term thinking in the financial system, incentives for impact investment, and investing for the future (including investment in renewable energy, forests and microfinance). Before that, she was an investment analyst and portfolio manager working in the UK’s development finance institution, CDC, where she developed CDC’s ESG toolkit and impact reporting framework in the late 1990s.
Alice has an MA in Economics from Cambridge University and is a chartered accountant.
