It is important to develop a common position on plastic waste management as well as on the role of science, government, business and civil society in building an effective system of plastic waste management and creating of a closed-cycle economy.
Development of experience exchange in best practices of waste management is one of important mechanisms of global sustainable development.
The problem of plastic pollution require a great deal of attention, especially from the scientific community, and should unite not only ecologists but also scientists specialized in the field of polymer science.
There is a need to focus on the basic characteristics of polymers and issues that remain behind the scenes but are also related to plastic pollution, such as the problem of terminology, the problem of the relationship between the size and danger of plastic particles that occur in the process of plastic waste degradation, and the problem of microplastics.
It is crucial to continue the dialogue to prepare for a new UN Convention on Plastic Pollution.
